1-2-Skip A Few 100! Meg's Blogoversary!!

Three lovely handfuls, a big black lab who attacks people, it is amazing--my 100th post.

To celebrate I will adhere to the virtual time-honored tradition of sharing some little known facts about myself.

1. I love Wilco.
2. I love micro-brewed beers.

3. I love John Cusack.
4. I'm a wiseass.
5. Not necessarily in that order.

6. I taught English for two years in Tokyo and always introduced myself to my classes with this icebreaker: tell 3 things about yourself and one of them must be a lie. Here are my three:

-When I was 17, I was suspended from school.
-When I was 18, I hitch-hiked across the country.
-When I was 19, I was arrested and put in jail.

Which one is the lie? My Japanese students got it wrong every time.

7. I've never been suspended from school.

8. I’ve been to Nam. Vietnam.

9. And also China, Thailand, South Korea, Europe, Turkey, Mexico, Nicaragua and the Toronto film festival where they have over 300 movies from 55 different countries.

10. I’ve never water-skied barefoot like the Hypocritical One, but I did do a sailing course with Outward Bound in Maine and ended up being an instructor there one summer.

11. I have a huge collection of memorabilia dolls ranging from Barry Goldwater to Barry Gibbs.

12. I’m a member of The Couch Surfing Project.

13. I did a solo backpacking trip to Europe after college.

14. I hate milk.

15. My greatest talent is in arranging the song order on CD mixes. I’m an excellent arranger.

16. And I have excellent taste in music.

17. Like Wilco.

18. I’ve worked for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for four years writing about small school reform.

19.  I recently learned how to add color to my posts.

20. I’m currently drinking white wine because it has fewer carbs than beer.

21. And it’s hell.

22. And I hate it.

23. But not as much as I hate milk.

24. I have choreographed and performed with an Adult Irish step dancing group. And we're on You Tube. And like my friend Randy says, "They just don't let anybody on there."

25. After high school I hitchhiked across the country with my best friend. We were on the road for a month. It was the greatest time of my life.

26. When I was 19, I was arrested for “park curfew” and “unauthorized use of a city swimming pool". In layman’s terms that means skinny-dipping.

27. Ya see, I really am a Hippie for Obama.

28. A wine-drinking Hippie for Obama.

29. But hopefully not for long. The wine-drinking, that is.

i absolutely LOVE this post. (and where the hell did you get that picture of me?) I also went across the county (at 21) and it took us a month. Stopped at every bar and watering hole along the way. It was a miracle we made it at all.

Regarding #20: Try cheap champagne. You still get the benefit of less carbs but you get to burp like it was beer. Works for me.

You life is like a book. I can only say that, in comparison, I'm an occasional beer-drinking John Cusak fan for Obama. I like Asian food, though, but that's not close.

Woo-hoo for 100!

Or maybe you should try vodka. Isn't that what Vodka Mom should say? ;)

Happy 100th! And after reading the first five or six, I thought I know this stuff already but then you surprised me. Thanks for the surprise-- and, oh, the naked photo too to wake up to this morning. :)

Vodka Mom - No, the picture is of me. I used to have blond hair, remember?

Deb - Thanks for the tip. Are hangovers involved with the cheap stuff?

FADKOG - Occasional? Girl, we gotta change that!

Unfinished - Thanks. Like I said, I'm a wiseass.

Happy 100th!

I was going to make a cake, light candles and sing... but I ate all the batter and um... now I need some milk.

This was a great list!

Have a great weekend!

Congrats Meg. I was suspended from school for two weeks when I was 16. High-Five. Cheers!!

Wow...I thought I was reading the script for Forrest Gump with all the different things you've done.

Except you're not a male, nor semi-retarded.

Congrats on your 100th- Sounds like you have great material for a book!

Meg said...

Anndi - Cake? Too many carbs. Must save them for liquid refreshments.

Matt-Man - Way to go! Did you want to write about the decriminalization of marijuana for the school newspaper, too?

Hypocritical One - My kids aren't so sure about the semi-retarded.

PaperCages - Thanks. And I haven't even mentioned my career as a political activist.

Congrats on your 100th post.

In regards to your arrest, did they let you put your clothes back on first?

Way to go and congrats on your 100th post! I like the wine drinking!

When I was a teacher, I played the truth and lies game on the first day too! I didn't have anything as cool to say for my 3 things though. Plus, since it was 5th grade, I figure I'd keep it mild anyway. Love your 3 statements though. Congrats on your 100th post!

Jinksy - Yes. And they even told us if we had illegal substances to hide them well because our car would be searched downtown. OK. Arresting us for swimming in a park pool but not caring about drugs?? Hmmm...

We didn't have drugs. Couldn't afford them.

OHMommy - Thank you. I''m actually starting to like the stuff, but it doesn't go well with peanuts.

Jen - Thank goodness we both left the teaching field for a life of movie star stalking!!

I'm so jealous of your back-packing trip across Europe. I always wanted to do that! But not so much of the wine drinking :P.
I took pictures of our Irish dancing troupe at the Ren Faire, I'll have to post some of those for you you, lol. It's also a form of dance that I'm dying to get my kids involved in it so we're seeing what we can do with that. In the meantime, I'm off to check out the Meg dance!

Meg, this may have made my week. And I'm soooooo behind! Still have to read the article you so kindly sent me.

We have some other similarities, I've now found out, including the milk thing.

I like wine, though.

Wow, are you Madonna? Would never have picked you as such a Jeff Tweedy fan. You should really try a bit more acoustic twang in your music, I would probably listen to it then. But you are still hot, even at 50.

Happy Blogoversary!

Meg said...

JT - It's beer. Beer. Beer.

Jen - Milk. It only works in Ben & Jerry's.

Free Man - Does Steve Earle count? And Madonna is 50--gives me something to look forward to.

Congrats Meg. I'm drinking a microbrew, listening to "Is That the Thanks I Get," and lightning my milk jug on fire in honor of your 100th post.

Meg said...

Sensei - If only we could celebrate together.

Well done on the 100 and get the hell back on the beer!

Lisa said...

This is my first time to your blog and it could't have been a better post!! Nice to meet ya!

Meg said...

Chris - That's the plan. But then I probably wouldn't get picked up so quickly. Hitchhiking, I mean.

Lisa - Thank you. I worry that you'll soon realize how dysfunctional I really am.

Congrats! (I hate milk, too. We're in good company - Bill Maher doesn't like it, either.)
