Transvestites, Transgenders and Transitive Verbs

As I mentioned I'm teaching at a two-year college that offers an associates degree in Medical Administrative Assistance. We have a strict dress code where students are required to wear scrubs and white sports shoes. Their hair must be a "natural" color--no bright reds or blues--and they must cover all facial piercings and tattoos.

Our security guard gets a bit overzealous in issuing dress code violations to the students.

Funny thing is, he's a "by-the-books" security guard by day. But by night, he's a flaming red-haired cross dresser. Yes, he...ur...she's brought me my coffee at Big Boy on more than one occasion.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I've got nothing against our transvestite security guard

Or any of the six trans-genders we have at our small college.

The only issue we have with them is which restroom they should use.

Hey, it makes my job of teaching the parts of speech a wee bit more interesting.

If he's flaming, you better put him out! (rimshot)

And why would there be anything wrong with red hair? (badabing)

He's brought you COFFEE? That's just wrong, so wrong...(grin)

I don't really mind transgendered folk in the bathroom, but if it's a guy in the women's bathroom, he BETTER sit down!

I know this doesn't make sense, but while it doesn't bother me to share a restroom with a man (albeit in women's clothing and in varying degrees of crossing the gender divide), it still bothers me to share a dressing room area with a male.

Maybe clothing stores could make a third dressing room for people in transition from one gender to another? I would imagine m-w or w-m gender-transitioning people would be more accepting/comfortable in that situation than the people already confirmed in a gender.

Man, you work at such a cool place. There aren't ANY trans-gendered people where I work (at home), unless you count Gus, my boy-cat, who thinks he's a girl.

Tho he has no trouble picking a litterbox.

The cartoon is funny and your post reminded me of a time when a local newspaper (this was out west), known for their lack of proofreading, got transient and transvestite mixed up... The homeless took great offense at the mistake.

Yikes! I would feel uncomfortable in the locker room with a man. I don't care how you dress, it's the parts that count.

But if you're in transition parts-wise, I have no clue what to do with you.
